Elizabeth A. Baker is a tireless musician and composer who has chosen an unusual set of vessels for her avant-garde sensibility. Though her musical lineage includes the likes of John Cage, Steve Reich, and Edgard Varese, her primary instrument is the humble toy piano, which she manipulates through electronics and melds into modern ensembles.
Baker was the recipient of the 2015 Individual Artist Grant from the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, in support of her sound installation In Our Own Words: A Sonic Memory Quilt. Also in 2015, she toured the American south, performing from Santa Fe to Orlando. She has been praised by the Orlando Weekly and Composers Circle.
Baker is also an ambitious promoter of contemporary and adventurous music. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the New Music Conflagration, which aims to further public awareness of contemporary music. She is also co-founder of the Florida International Toy Piano Festival, and author of Toyager: A Toy Piano Method, the first comprehensive book focusing on toy piano instruction.
