Derek Donnelly is a portrait painter, muralist and co-founder of the Saint Paint artist’s collective. His vibrant and fantastical work, infused with Florida’s stunning natural wealth, appears on buildings throughout Pinellas County.
Donnelly is a Florida native, who grew up in St. Petersburg and graduated from Gibbs High School in 2001. He founded the Saint Paint gallery and collective in 2011, with help from Bill Correira Woo. Donnelly says Woo was his best friend and mentor before passing away in 2012 of complications from brain surgery. Woo’s death brought together over 40 artists to collaborate on a tribute mural, helmed by Donnelly and installed outside Saint Paint’s storefront gallery in 2012.
Donnelly closed the Saint Paint gallery in 2014 to focus on St. Pete’s exploding mural scene, as well as on organizing art exhibits and curating art for local businesses.
